Charlotte, NC. (Tuesday, November 15, 2022) — The STEM Careers Coalition™ – the first-of-its-kind national STEM initiative powered by corporate and non-profit leaders and anchored in schools by Discovery Education – recently was named the Best Career Readiness Solution as part of the inaugural Excellence in Equity Awards. Presented by The American Consortium for Equity in Education, the Excellence in Equity Awards acknowledge, spotlight, and celebrate high-impact work across K-12 education.
This competitive awards program honoring schools, educators, and industry received more than 160 total nominations from around the world. 64 finalists were announced in the 16 industry categories, with 30 winners selected. There were also 21 winners selected in 10 categories dedicated to educators and schools. A group of diverse judges selected winners and finalists based on outstanding achievement in supporting equitable opportunity and outcomes for all educators and learners.
“Educators and industry are on the same team, dedicated to the same mission of ensuring equitable opportunity for all learners. The overwhelming interest from all stakeholders in our inaugural awards program proves that sentiment to be true,” said Ross Romano, Program Chair of the Excellence in Equity Awards and Strategic Advisor to the American Consortium for Equity in Education. “It’s my honor to announce the 2022 Excellence in Equity Award winners and spotlight the stories of these companies and leaders improving student and educator outcomes in schools everywhere.”
Representing a range of industry sectors, the STEM Careers Coalition prepares 10 million students for the future of work by 2025 by providing equitable access to digital content and experiences that engage students in instruction, build foundational STEM knowledge, and develop the critical skills students need for college and career success. In 2022, the Coalition welcomed new members such as Cox Enterprises, Nevada Gold Mines, and PepsiCo Foundation. View the complete list of STEM Career Coalition partners here.
“We are proud to receive this award and are thankful to the Excellence in Equity judges for this recognition,” said Jackie Smalls, Vice President of Social Impact Coalitions at Discovery Education. “Having reached over 5.7 million students since launch in 2019, the STEM Careers Coalition is nurturing a diverse culture of STEM education in K-12 schools and afterschool centers nationwide by empowering educators to teach STEM effectively in the classroom, fostering and promoting quality education, and building the next generation of STEM solution-seekers with an intentional focus on racial and gender equity. This award is a powerful validation of this work.”
