Charlotte, NC (Saturday, June 24, 2023)— Discovery Education today announced the 18-year anniversary of the Discovery Educator Network (DEN), the longest-running professional learning network. The anniversary will be celebrated at the 2023 ISTE Conference where several DEN members are leading sessions and Discovery Education is hosting its annual DEN birthday celebration. Discovery Education is the worldwide edtech leader whose state-of-the-art digital platform supports instruction wherever it takes place.
As a global community of education professionals, the Discovery Educator Network connects members across school systems and across the country through social media, virtual conferences, and in-person events, fostering valuable networking, idea sharing, and inspiration. Trusted by educators since 2005, the DEN offers educators a thriving professional learning network. Members, known as DEN STAR Educators, are dedicated to preparing learners for tomorrow by using digital resources and DE to create innovative classrooms connected to today’s world. Members are educators from all roles and backgrounds, joined by a passion for continuous learning and a commitment to their students.
The 2023 ISTE Conference marks the first post-COVID in-person celebration for the DEN. DEN members are leading sessions during the conference on key topics including creativity, esports, STEM, and more. All DEN members and users of Discovery Education resources are invited to join the Discovery Education DEN Birthday Party to celebrate 18 years of the community. The in-person event elevates the importance of community while providing educators the space to have fun. Additional information can be found here.
“What has made the biggest impact as an educator was knowing that I was not alone; I was a part of a community of like-minded individuals that supported and encouraged each other,” said Peter Panico, a 5th grade public school teacher from North Carolina. “The Discovery Educator Network gave me that community. The DEN has been a life changing experience for me as a person and as an educator. Educators loosely use the term PLC in their schools. A true professional learning community is built with people you can rely on and who support and assist you. That is who the DEN is to me.”
In addition to the in-person events, valuable networking, idea sharing, and inspiration, the DEN offers educators additional benefits through the DEN STAR program. Those benefits include:
- Community. Access to an incredible community of educators who are interested in networking to share, staying up to date, and finding the best ways to use digital resources to reach all learners.
- Support. Being a DEN STAR is the easiest way to stay in the loop with the best resources to engage students and other educators.
- Opportunity. Exclusive and early access to learning opportunities, in-person and virtual events, and chances to participate in presentations, publications, and deliver feedback.

“As a former classroom teacher, I was an active member of the DEN. Personally, the DEN has always been about the power of community,” said Ann Crilley, Senior Manager of Community Engagement at Discovery Education. “For 18 years, Discovery Education has brought educators together from all over the world to learn from and lean on each other. The DEN offers a host of exciting ways for educators to engage with each other and ignite collaboration, and I invite all Discovery Education teachers and administrators to join us as a DEN STAR.
