No-Cost Resources Available from Discovery Education to Support Student Health During and Beyond Red Ribbon Week

CHARLOTTE, NC (Thursday, October 20, 2022) – Discovery Education – the worldwide edtech leader whose state-of-the-art digital platform supports learning wherever it takes place – and its social impact partners are offering students, educators, and families a host of no-cost digital resources they can use to observe Red Ribbon Week 2022. This engaging digital content, which empowers students to make healthy choices, is available at Discovery Education’s Red Ribbon Week website. 

Observed annually from October 23-31, Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco, and drug prevention awareness campaign in the United States. Established in 1985 to honor the memory of Drug Enforcement Agent Enrique (Kiki) Camarena, the Red Ribbon campaign seeks to raise awareness of the violence and destruction caused by drugs in the United States.   

Aligning with the 2022 Red Ribbon Week theme of “Celebrate Life. Live Drug Free.™” the following partnerships provide proactive strategies and standards-aligned resources supporting the health and wellbeing of students nationwide:  

Prevention Education Resources for Middle School Classrooms
Designed with the whole child in mind, the turnkey classroom resources from Ask, Listen, Learn and Discovery Education focus on how prevention education and social and emotional learning foundations come together to keep kids safe and substance-free.   

JoinAsk, Listen, Learn and Discovery Education to uncover the science behind how alcohol and cannabis affect developing brains, bodies, and behavior. With this content, educators and families can equip students with social emotional learning-grounded prevention resources that also dive deep into the science, data, and facts, empowering kids to say “YES” to a healthy lifestyle and “NO” to dangerous risky behaviors. 

Medication Safety Elementary Classroom Activities
New elementary classroom resources from Dose of Knowledge focus on medication safety and provide educators everything they need to teach about substance misuse, medication safety, and mental health.  

As part of CVS Health’s Pharmacists Teach program, Dose of Knowledge offers a suite of no-cost digital content aligned to learning standards empowering K-12 grade students with the facts about prescription and illicit drug misuse, specifically focusing on opioid misuse prevention., while also connecting classrooms to pharmacists.  

Professional Learning
A three-part on-demand professional learning series from the Social-Emotional Learning Coalition addresses multiple topics related to students’ health, including responsible decision-making.  

The Social-Emotional Learning Coalition is a network of industry partners – such as The Allstate Foundation, the National Afterschool Association, and Responsibility.org – who joined forces with Discovery Education to foster social and emotional growth. 

Virtual Field Trip: Operation Prevention
The on-demand Opioids: Real People. Real Stories. Real Science. Virtual Field Trip from Operation Prevention provides students with stories of addiction and recovery from two retired professional athletes and a musician.  

Created in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration, Operation Prevention engages grades 3-12 with the power of prevention. Help kickstart life-saving conversations today with standards-aligned English & Spanish-language resources, plus additional resources designed for educators, families, and professionals.
