LG, Toyota, and USC Shoah Foundation Recognized for Community-Focused Campaigns on Topics Covering SEL, Inclusion, and Student Health & Wellness
Silver Spring, Md. (Wednesday, August 12, 2020) – Several Discovery Education corporate and community partnership programs have been recognized for excellence as part of the PR Daily Corporate Social Responsibility Awards. The awards program acknowledges causes and initiatives that serve to improve communities through awareness increasing communication.

LG Discover Your Happy
Discover Your Happy, a collaborative effort between Discovery Education and LG Electronics USA – and extension of LG’s signature social impact initiative, “Life’s Good: Experience Happiness” – provides educators, parents, and students with hands-on resources to help students recognize that they can achieve sustainable happiness through the practice of six foundational social-emotional skills: mindfulness, human connection, positive outlook, purpose, generosity, and gratitude. On the United Nations International Day of Happiness in 2019, LG and Discovery Education initiated a nationwide social media campaign to spark meaningful conversations about the importance of practicing happiness and provide resources and tips for developing happiness skills. The campaign garnered more than 45 million impressions and engaged over 130,000 students.

Toyota TeenDrive365 Video Challenge
Since 2011, the Toyota TeenDrive365 Video Challenge has awarded over a quarter million dollars to high school students across the United States to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving. The student-created public service announcements are published nationally, serving as a peer-to-peer awareness raising campaign about the importance of safe driving.
The TeenDrive365 Video Challenge supplements TeenDrive365, a digital initiative produced in the partnership between Toyota and Discovery Education, offering engaging and interactive resources empowering educators, families, and teens with lifesaving skills for behind the wheel. USC Shoah Foundation Teaching with Testimony “Our Stories are Stronger Than Hate” VFT
This Virtual Field Trip highlights real-world stories to help students explore the dynamics of respect, acceptance, and empathy. In the on-demand field trip, students hear from activist and Marjory Stoneman Douglas school shooting survivor Samantha Grady, Holocaust survivor Eva Schloss, as well as students who experience hate in their everyday lives as they share their stories of overcoming adversity and their unique perspectives of healing from trauma. Both archived and present-day storytelling overlap to create an impactful learning opportunity for students to explore emotions, consider questions, experience a shared humanity, and develop thinking in new and nuanced ways.
Developed as part of the partnership between USC Shoah Foundation and Discovery Education, Teaching with Testimony is a no-cost educational program that unlocks the powerful instructional potential of testimony. Drawing upon USC Shoah Foundation’s vast library of audiovisual testimony from survivors and witnesses of genocides, Teaching with Testimony empowers students to find their voices and act for a better future.
