The new digital resources coming to Discovery Education Experience and the Science and Social Studies Techbooks provide K-12 educators a new array of digital resources they can begin integrating into classroom instruction to engage all learners. New content recently added to Discovery Education’s services include:
Explore real-world science with National Science Foundation: Hundreds of new videos from the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) collection are now live in Discovery Education Experience and Science Techbook. Through these videos, students will meet scientists and engineers leading ground-breaking research in space science, agriculture, computers, and much more. In the series “Science Nation,” NSF researchers examine new discoveries pertaining to the Earth, the universe, and humanity itself. The “Texties” series delivers exciting National Science Foundation-funded research through text-onscreen videos that promote students’ reading comprehension skills. And “Profiles of Scientists and Engineers” helps students better understand what STEM careers are really like through profiles of young professionals in the field.
Go wild with new content from Animal Planet: In “Wild Australia,” students will explore the unique creatures found in the world’s smallest continent and consider the traditions and history of Aboriginal Australians. “Wild Costa Rica” brings the rainforest into the classroom and showcases the behaviors, adaptations, and biology of Costa Rica’s incredible animals. Both titles are now available in Discovery Education Experience and Science Techbook.
Get curious with new animated videos from Discovery Education: Discovery Education’s new “Curiosity” video series is now live in Discovery Education Experience, Science Techbook, and Social Studies Techbook. Covering topics in biology, American history, and U.S. holidays, the series encourages elementary students to think big and get curious about the world around them. Host and narrator Lenzi the Magnifying Glass begins each episode with an engaging question like “Why are there so many kinds of places in the world?” and “What does the word democracy mean to you?” that inspires critical thinking and creativity. “Curiosity” videos are also available within topic-based channels like Ecosystems and Holidays and Observances within Discovery Education Experience.
Uncover the power of stories to change our world: USC Shoah Foundation and Discovery Education take students on a dynamic learning experience in Our Stories Are Stronger Than Hate Virtual Field Trip. During this virtual experience, students hear powerful first-hand testimonies to help them consider what gives stories the power to make an impression on others, inspire action, and even change the world. This virtual field trip is now available in Discovery Education Experience and Social Studies Techbook.
Shine a light on the untold stories of today’s changing America with BESE: Discovery Education is proud to partner with BESE, the digital news platform founded by actress Zoe Saldana to reconstruct and recontextualize narratives around how young people connect to today’s America. Three new video series, including “Hidden Figuras,” “Sea of Change,” and “BESE Explains,” tell stories that promote inclusivity and navigate the tapestry of cultures, identities, and nations that make up our nation. Students will be inspired by a diverse collection of inventors, entrepreneurs, newsmakers, problem-solvers, change-makers, and thought leaders who have contributed to our society through science, technology, art, and culture. BESE content is now available in Discovery Education Experience.
New physics videos from Flipping Physics: New to Discovery Education Experience and Science Techbook, Flipping Physics videos break down problems from all high school physics courses—standard track, AP Physics 1, AP Physics 2, and AP Physics C—with clear, step-by-step solutions to help students in algebra-based and calculus-based courses. High school physics teacher and host Jonathan Thomas-Palmer, along with his “students” Billy, Bobby, and Bo, use real-world examples of physics phenomena to keep students engaged and on track.
Experience the world’s most unique places with Travel Channel: Now live in Discovery Education Experience and Social Studies Techbook, the series “Top of the World” highlights the geography, landforms, architecture, and people of the world’s most fascinating locations. Students will travel to Alaska, Japan, Norway, Hawaii, China, and more as they encounter the world’s distinct cultures and locales.
